A Coorg Ooty Tour: Exploring the Beauty and Culture of South India

Welcome to the vibrant and diverse land of South India! Bhartiya Airways is thrilled to offer you an unforgettable Coorg Ooty Mysore tour, where you will experience the perfect blend of nature, history, culture, and cuisine. This tour is carefully crafted to immerse you in the beauty and charm of these three enchanting destinations. Below are the details of the tour and some tips to enhance your travel experience.

Day 1: Kushalnagar Sightseeing

You will start your journey from Mysore, boarding a private cab to Coorg, also known as Kodagu. Coorg is a hill station in Karnataka, famous for its coffee plantations, scenic landscapes, and wildlife. After checking into the hotel, you will be headed to Kushalnagar, India's largest Tibetan settlement. Here, you will visit the Golden Temple, known as Namdroling Monastery, a stunning example of Tibetan architecture and art. The temple houses three giant statues of Buddha, Padmasambhava, and Amitayus, surrounded by colourful prayer flags and wheels. You will also learn about the history and culture of the Tibetan people.

Next, you will go to Nisargadhama, an island formed by Kaveri. It is a beautiful place to relax and enjoy nature, with bamboo groves, sandalwood trees, a deer park, an orchidarium, and boating facilities. You will also have a chance to interact with some friendly elephants at Dubare Forest, an elephant camp and river rafting site. Here, you will learn how elephants are trained and cared for by the mahouts and also enjoy a thrilling ride on the rapids of the river.

After that, you will visit the Chiklihole and Harangi dams, two of Coorg's primary water sources for irrigation and power generation. Both barriers offer spectacular views of the water reservoirs and the surrounding hills. You will also enjoy some local delicacies like kadambuttu (rice dumplings), curry (pork curry), and akki roti (rice flatbread) at a nearby restaurant.

Day 2: Madikeri Sightseeing

The next day, you will explore Madikeri, the headquarters of the Coorg district and also known as Scotland of India. Madikeri has a lot of historical and natural attractions to offer, such as Talakaveri, Bhagamandala, Abbey Falls, Mandalpatti, Madikeri Fort, and Raja’s Seat.

Talakaveri is the birthplace of the river Kaveri, considered sacred by the Hindus. It is located at an altitude of 1276 metres on Brahmagiri Hill. Here, you will visit the temple dedicated to Goddess Kaveriamma and witness the holy spring that emerges from a small tank. You will also climb the hill's peak, with a breathtaking view of the misty mountains and valleys.

Bhagamandala is a pilgrimage site where three rivers - Kaveri, Kannike, and Sujyoti - meet and form a Triveni sangam (confluence). It is also home to Sri Bhagandeshwara temple.

Day 3: Coorg to Ooty

On the third day of your Coorg Ooty Mysore tour, you will check out the hotel in Coorg after having a delicious breakfast. You will be excited to visit Ooty, another hill station in TamilNadu, known for its tea gardens, colonial heritage, and natural attractions.

On the way to Ooty, you will be stopped at Bandipur National Park, one of India's largest and most famous wildlife sanctuaries. It is home to various animals, such as elephants, tigers, leopards, deer, monkeys, and birds. You will take a safari ride in a Jeep and enjoy the sight of these majestic creatures in their natural habitat. If you are interested, you will also learn about the conservation efforts and challenges faced by the park authorities.

After spending some time in Bandipur, I resumed my journey to Ooty. The road was scenic and winding, passing through forests, hills, and plantations. I reached Ooty in the evening and checked into the hotel. I relaxed for a while and then walked into the town. I was amazed by the charm and beauty of Ooty, also known as the Queen of Hill Stations.

Day 4: Ooty Sightseeing

The next day, you will have a hearty breakfast at the hotel and explore Ooty. Your first destination was DoddaBetta Peak, the highest point in the Nilgiri hills. It is about 10 km from Ooty and offers a panoramic view of the surrounding valleys and mountains. You will reach the peak by car and climb a few steps to the observation tower. The view from there was breathtaking and mesmerising. You could see the clouds floating below me and the sun shining above me.

Next, you will go to Coonoor, a small town near Ooty. You will board a toy train on a narrow gauge railway line between Ooty and Mettupalayam. The toy train ride was one of the highlights of my trip, as it gave me a chance to experience the beauty and charm of the Nilgiri hills uniquely. The train passed through tunnels, bridges, curves, and slopes, offering a glimpse of lush greenery, waterfalls, tea estates, and villages along the way.

After reaching Coonoor, you will visit Dolphin Nose, a rock formation that resembles the nose of a dolphin. It is located at an altitude of 1000 metres and offers a stunning view of Catherine Falls and the Coonoor Valley. You will also visit Lamb’s Rock, another viewpoint offering a scenic view of the tea gardens and forests.

Then, I returned to Ooty and visited the Botanical Garden, one of India's oldest and largest botanical gardens. It covers an area of 22 hectares and has more than 1000 species of plants, flowers, trees, and shrubs. It also has a fossil tree that is believed to be 20 million years old. You will enjoy walking around the garden and admiring the variety and beauty of nature.

My last stop for the day was the Rose Garden, another popular attraction in Ooty. It has more than 20,000 varieties of roses in different colours, shapes, and sizes. It also has some rare and exotic roses not found elsewhere in India. I was fascinated by the fragrance and splendour of the roses and took many pictures.

Day 5: Ooty to Mysore

On the last day of your Coorg Ooty Mysore tour, you will check out the hotel in Ooty after having a sumptuous breakfast. I still had time to explore more attractions in Ooty before heading to Mysore.

Your first stop was the Tea Museum, a must-visit for tea lovers. It is located inside the Doddabetta Tea Factory, where you will see the entire process of tea making, from plucking to packaging. I also learned about the history and types of tea and tasted some fresh and aromatic tea samples.

Next, you will go to Ooty Lake, a manufactured lake created by John Sullivan, the founder of Ooty. It is a popular spot for boating, cycling, and horse riding. You will enjoy a relaxing boat ride on the lake and admire the scenic view of the hills and trees. You will also visit nearby Deer Park, home to some rare and endangered species of deer.

The final destination will be Pine Forest, a beautiful place to enjoy nature and photography. It is a dense forest of pine trees that creates a serene and soothing atmosphere. You will be walking among the tall and majestic trees and feel a sense of peace and calmness. You will also capture some fantastic pictures of the forest and the lake.

After that, you must bid Ooty farewell and board a bus to Mysore. Mysore is a city in Karnataka known for its royal palaces, cultural festivals, and silk sarees. It is also a hub for yoga and wellness, where you can learn and practise various forms of yoga.

You will reach Mysore in the evening and be dropped off at your desired location. Thus, your Coorg Ooty Mysore tour came to an end. It was an unforgettable experience that gave me a glimpse of the beauty and culture of South India.
